The creative means of production have shifted underneath our feet. FIELD GUIDE VOL.1 is a collective inquiry into what it means to make, author, and imagine in an era when generative tools have fundamentally altered the relationship between creator and creation. This is an open conversation among practitioners—designers, architects, writers, strategists, artists—actively working within and against the grain of these new systems. Each contributor brings a distinct lens: media theory, architectural criticism, post-structuralist philosophy, phenomenology, design practice. Together, they trace the contours of a paradigm shift that is less about technology and more about how we understand creativity itself. FIELD GUIDE VOL.1 offers a dialog in flux—an artifact for posterity to unpack what we are experiencing as a new creative phenomenon, ushered by a new technology. The creative class needs a new north star to navigate this territory. Vol.1 is the atlas of the terrain: the theoretical frameworks, historical precedents, practical workflows, philosophical commitments, and open questions that define the generative moment. It is an invitation to join the conversation. Vol.2 will be the north star: an operating manual for the creative team of the future.
Published by FLORA Issue 001 Field Guide is an ongoing series. Future volumes will continue to trace how the generative paradigm reshapes the creative spirits—through new voices, new practices, and new questions we haven't yet learned to ask.
